Crêpes Suzette: The Elegant French Dessert You Can Make at Home
Bonjour les Amis,
If you're looking for a dessert that’s simple yet elegant, Crêpes Suzette is the perfect choice. This classic French recipe combines delicate crêpes with a rich, buttery orange sauce for a dish that feels luxurious but is surprisingly easy to make. Whether you're planning a cozy dinner at home or a special celebration, Crêpes Suzette is guaranteed to impress.
What Makes Crêpes Suzette Special?
Crêpes are already a staple of French cuisine, but what makes Crêpes Suzette unique is the sauce—a beautiful blend of fresh orange juice, zest, butter, and a touch of Grand Marnier. Traditionally flambéed for a dramatic effect, this recipe keeps things simple while still delivering that irresistible caramelized citrus flavor.
Let’s get started!
Ingredients
For the Crêpes
1 cup Crêpes Chantal Organic Crêpe Mix
2 large eggs
1 ¼ cups milk
2 tablespoons melted butter (plus extra for the pan)
For the Orange Suzette Sauce
3 tablespoons unsalted butter
¼ cup sugar
Zest of one orange
½ cup fresh orange juice
2 tablespoons Grand Marnier or Cointreau (optional)
Instructions
Step 1: Make the Crêpes
In a mixing bowl, whisk together the Crêpes Chantal mix, eggs, milk, and melted butter until smooth.
Heat a non-stick pan over medium heat and lightly grease with butter.
Pour ¼ cup of batter into the pan, swirling to coat evenly.
Cook for 30-40 seconds, then flip and cook for another 15-20 seconds. Repeat with the remaining batter.
Step 2: Prepare the Suzette Sauce
In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat.
Add the sugar and orange zest, stirring until dissolved.
Pour in the orange juice and let it simmer for 2-3 minutes until slightly thickened.
If using Grand Marnier, pour it in and gently tilt the pan to flambé (or simply let it simmer for a deeper flavor).
Step 3: Coat the Crêpes
Place a crêpe in the sauce, folding it into quarters.
Repeat with the remaining crêpes, allowing them to soak up the citrusy, buttery goodness.
Serve warm with extra sauce drizzled on top.
